Sainsbury's Project

GWR Locomotive Shed, Swindon, 50T
Carillion

It was a pleasure to refurbish this mid 19th century building and give it at least another 150 years of life. The trusses were made of wrought iron. William Haley Engineering took down the steelwork at the Great Western Railway Works in Swindon, repaired it at our Somerset Works and re-erected it at Williton for reuse as a Locomotive shed for the West Somerset Railway. The photographs show the transformation from disuse to reuse. View more images for this project

This project converted a disused office block into a combined residential and commercial property. The existing concrete floors were extended outwards by new steel frames connected to site fixed brackets. All steel beams were cut and drilled to match these brackets. The contractor chose William Haley Engineering because of its experience of refurbishing buildings.
